That’s why we’ve decided to compile a list of the best FireStick games that are available for free, and which have a free trial so you can test them out and see if they’re worth your time. Afterward, many games would not run as smooth and newer games were requiring a 2nd Gen device, so I moved on from the 1st gen.There are a lot of games on FireStick and Roku, but many of them are either paid or have a free trial, which makes them extremely hard to find and play. (BTW, the headphone jack only works with a 2nd gen box, not the stick.) Unfortunately, my Firestick 1 was on the 54.x firmware and I had to upgrade to FireOS 5 for the newer WiFi-tech Game Controller to work. Using WiFi Direct reduced lag, improved battery life, and also allowed higher bandwidth for a headphone jack. (This older official controller may work with newer FireTVs.) So I upgraded to the second version of the Amazon Game Controller which runs on a proprietary protocol over Wi-Fi Direct. Unfortunately, it always disconnected on me. It was slightly laggy, but okay for casual play. It's clunkier, has the rewind-play-forward buttons on the bottom, eats batteries, and works on bluetooth. I originally had the first version and used it with my 1st gen Fire TV Stick.
Just some information: There are actually two versions of the Amazon Game Controller. That's why I was trying to go the wired route. The issue doesn't hinder casual enjoyment, but after you seriously start playing a game, it can get frustrating. The "lag" was frequent at first, but now it's much rarer after subsequent FireOS 5 updates. Actually, not lag, it will just miss a button press. (My only complaint is with the average D-pad, but that's the same on almost every modern controller.) Unfortunately, it has occasional lag. Good weight, good feel, and comfortable to hold. I actually have the official Amazon Game Controller.
